The perfect start to fall is most definitely the Chili Challenge that Old Town Lenexa hosts every year. On Friday, October 7th, the festival is open from 6 to 10pm and starts with a festive firework show and live music by the Stolen Winnebagos. Each team sets up their tent to host private parties, but you don’t need to know someone to join the fun. There is much to do throughout the two days including: free face painters, balloon artists and live music for everyone’s enjoyment. Food and drink vendors also set up at Old town Lenexa, kettle corn, fresh lemonade, and Kona-Ice are just some of the delicious options.

Saturday morning, October 8th, the festival starts at 10am and goes till 3pm. Kids ages 12 and under can take part in the fun by joining the Kids Kornbread Contest. Throughout all of Saturday, free samples of chili are given out. Along with free chili, salsa and hot wings are available, so make sure to come hungry and ready to feast! Each team competes to have the best chili, salsa, and hot wings. With about 200 hundred teams there is plenty to eat and finding a winner is always difficult!
