School has begun and that means fall sports are finally here! Soccer kicked off the start of Aquinas domination in sports with a 3 – 0 win against Saint James, continuing their legacy of victory. In a post-game interview, senior Ethan Young claimed “Aquinas soccer is different from all other schools. The way things operate is better than anything else”, affirming what we at STA always strive to accomplish. On Thursday, September 1st, varsity soccer played Rockhurst ending in a 2-2 tie.

Girls volleyball played well against Washburn Rural, but had a rough start in the first match and couldn’t pull off a comeback victory for the second. After having a taste of defeat, the Aquinas girls volleyball team decided it was not a pleasant pill to swallow. They went on to have a three game winning streak, scoring  2-0 against Bonner Springs and Shawnee Heights. Then, a 3-0 win against Bishop Miege.

Aquinas cross country is also starting up and the team is as strong as ever. They are looking for good placement across the board this year and senior Colby King said, “What I like about cross country is the team aspect. We are all a family here.” The Saints cross country team had their first meet on Thursday, but with some runners down because of illness, the team could not run all of their varsity racers. Even with this disadvantage, the varsity girls placed 3rd and the varsity boys placed 5th overall. They are looking to have an impressive comeback next week.

On Friday night, Saints football played their first 2022 home game against Blue Valley West. The team’s hard work in the off-season paid off in full, winning the game 31 points to 7 and absolutely destroying the higher ranked BVW team. When asked how he thought the football team did, senior John Forge said, “The whole team just played for each other and made everyone else’s job easier, which helped the team have a dominating first win under our belts.” Having that teamwork mentality and brotherhood will surely continue to bring home more Aquinas victories as the season progresses.
